Plængine: A System for Automated Service Composition and Process Enactment∗

An important challenge in software technology is the construction of infrastructures for the integration of functionality provided by multiple organizations. A promising approach is the service-oriented architecture that allows the offering of services in a uniform way and the composition of new services out of existing ones. Traditionally, this was amanual task. Recently, the automation of service composition has developed into an important research topic, as it promises to improve the efficiency of service composition as well as the flexibility of their enactment. In this paper we present design and implementation concepts of Plængine, a software system that aims at supporting the planning of service compositions as well as their flexible enactment. Categories: software architectures, processes and service composition, automated planning.
